This shapefile is a digital representation of the International
boundary between the United States and Canada as per the Treaty of 1908. It has been
generated from a combination of recent surveys and datum conversions. It is intended for
mapping purposes only.
The shapefile is composed of 29 segments that correspond to the
original 256 boundary maps. Attributes of each segment define the scale in which the line
in that area may be accurately depicted. It is produced for mapping purposes only and not
intended to illustrate the boundary beyond the limits of the scale for any given
segment.

The boundary segment between TP106 (43-37-52 N, 76-47-48 W) and TP107
(43-37-52 N, 78-41-25 W), Section 14 – Lake Ontario and Niagara River and the boundary
segment between TP158 (41-40-35 N, 82-23-51 W) and TP159 (41-40-35 N, 82-40-47 W), Section
15 - Lake Erie, Detroit & St. Clair Rivers are not straight lines. The boundary
segment in both these cases follow the parallel of latitude and some care should be given
to ensure adequate representation in various projections.
Lineage:
v1.1: Addition of a vertex in Gulf of Maine to fix an error.
v1.2: Correction of coordinates of points in Gulf of Maine section (Joint Annual Report 89-90) and interpolation of geodesic lines to preserve an accurate representation of the boundary in all map projection.
